{"id":3875,"date":"2016-06-05T17:34:36","date_gmt":"2016-06-05T17:34:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/zastone.ba\/en\/?p=3875"},"modified":"2016-09-13T12:51:00","modified_gmt":"2016-09-13T12:51:00","slug":"tech-world-meets-activism-point-5-0","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/zastone.ba\/en\/tech-world-meets-activism-point-5-0\/","title":{"rendered":"Where Tech world meets activism &#8211; POINT 5.0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"lead\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fifth edition of regional POINT Conference (Political Accountability and New Technologies) was held in the period from 25th &#8211; 28th of May 2016 in two cities (Sarajevo and Banja Luka) and in several venues.\u00a0As in previous 4 years, POINT 5.0 gathered civic society organizations and individuals who combine new technologies and activism in their work of advocating civic responsibility and government accountability. POINT 5.0 hosted more than 200 participants from all over the world as well as many local and regional activists.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"img-responsive aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/zastone.ba\/app\/uploads\/2016\/07\/point-5-0-day-2-73.jpg\" alt=\"Point 5.0 Day 2 73\" \/><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As the world went through couple of grand turmoils in relation to digital rights, censorship and surveillance and whistleblowing that had happened in the recent year, POINT was full of heating discussions regarding on-going problems, some specific for the region, and some which activists are facing internationally.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">POINT 5.0 started with a \u2018Day of advocacy for online freedom of expression\u2019 \u2013 POINT W Day that took place in Banja Luka, capital of Republika Srpska. This event hosted around 50 participants, local and international. Through 3 panels participants explored topics from censorship to recent Law of Public Order and Peace that entity of Republika Srpska had just adopted. \u00a0POINT W day was organized with Internews in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as a part of their Project W.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Parallel to the event in Banja Luka, a fact-checking workshop was happening in Sarajevo with moderation done by editors and producers from famous fact-checking shows all over Europe (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Poynter, Rai 2, El Objetivo, Channel 4<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">). Experiences and good practices in the field were successfully exchanged.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">First panel of the day was Government Transparency in the Region \u2013 ACTION SEE and Regional Open Government Index, which was followed by:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cHow to cross the bridge\u201d with TechSoup Balkans;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">TV Fact-checking: How can fact-checking get to prime time news?;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">US Elections \u2013 Making it Meaningful in the Times of Trump and the Likes;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Technology, Journalism, and some Papers from Panama \u2013 Stories Published, Lessons Learned; Georgia \u2013 How to Become the Best Public Service in the World;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Four Years After the Arab Spring \u2013 Experiences and Perspectives;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Skopje 2014 \u2013 Using Cool Apps to Expose Corrupt Government;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Civic Activism and Elections in Russia and Ukraine \u2013 What are the Perspectives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">After the intense block of sessions and panels, participants could enjoy \u201cThe Yes Men are Revolting\u201d \u2013 Movie screening or attend Book promotion \u201cFeb je \u010dekao olovku\u201d that was organized simultaneously with the movie projection as a part of an evening programme.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">POINT 5.0 Day 2 started with Motivating Stories from the Balkans , which was followed by:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Make Me a Parliamentarian \u2013 Putting Citizens in Parliamentarian Seats with Online Platforms;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI Walk Freely\u201d \u2013 Harassment Reporting Platform in Kosovo;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Technology and Refugee Crisis \u2013 What Works and What Does Not?;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">TV Satire \u2013 Making Politics Interesting on Screen; Freedom of Expression Online Between Corporate and Government Censorship;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fact-checking Media \u2013 New and Innovative Approaches to Making Media More Accountable;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Girls in Tech;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Scaling Tech Projects \u2013 What Works and Why?;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Opening Data in Albania \u2013 Open Contracting and Mapping Money.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Evening programme was reserved for the promotion of the Njuz.net book \u2013 \u201dThe Real History of the World\u201d, which turned to be a quite of success, reflected in the fact that many locals arrived into Kriterion for their dose of political satire.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Last day of the conference was reserved for three blocks of workshops, with Networks building as the venue. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Workshops from the first block were: \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">1. Fact-checking and Technology (Joe Fleisher \u2013 DevelopmentSeed, Krzysytof Madejski \u2013 Fundament)<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">3. Comparing government openness as an advocacy tool (Milena Gvozdenovi\u0107 \u2013 CDT, Jelena Berkovi\u0107 \u2013 GONG, Anna Kuliberda \u2013 TechSoup, Darko Brkan \u2013 UG Za\u0161to ne)<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">4.
