MEGAPHONE – Changing the Game

Megaphone was an international event held in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, November 13-15 2018, with an unconference spirit that provided space for collaborative discussions and peer-to-peer learning to brainstorm new ideas between activists, action groups, and NGOs who are struggling in the era of misinformation and social media algorithms.

TechSoup invited activists and NGOs to gather and discuss global pushback. Since technology is accelerating that process better understanding of what and how it’s happening is needed. Our representatives Darko Brkan and Danira Karovic attended Megaphone and participated discussions about how to involve people in causes, and how to use technology as a megaphone for engagement.

Some of the topics of Megaphone were: Fake news – how it works, how to combat it, Technologies to increase online visibility, Self-Care Within Community: Strategies to Survive in an Era of Burnout, Demystifying AI: what you need to know, Data Visualisation – how to present data in persuasive story telling, How to make “good propaganda” and many more.
