In firm belief that dealing with the past and decrying of war crimes are the very foundation of peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina and that we all have responsibility to continually fight against ideologies and policies that are responsible for a hundred thousands killed and millions displaced, we want to draw attention to the behavior of leadership of the Croatian Democratic Union of Bosnia and Herzegovina (HDZ BiH) and their attendance at the welcoming rally for Dario Kordić, a convicted war criminal, in Zagreb and Busovača.

Such actions of the leadership of the HDZ BiH clearly show the lack of their will to distance themselves from the political and military leadership they were linked to in the nineties, which was found responsible for committing war crimes.

We would also like to emphasize that there is a clear responsibility of the leadership of the HDZ BiH for creating the atmosphere in which physical assault against professor Slavo Kukić occurred, as the attack hapenned because of his criticism of Dragan’s Čović support for Dario Kordić at the Busovača rally.

Such actions are not in accordance with the basic civilization standrards and ideas shared by political movements with a European perspective. With that in mind, we ask the parties within the European People’s Party Group, to initiate proceedings to officially exclude the Croatian Democratic Union of Bosnia and Herzegovina from EPP’s structures.

We also ask those foundations and networks which support the work of the HDZ BiH in any way, to take a public stand on the actions of Dragan Čović and other high officials of the HDZ BiH and, provided they don’t agree with those actions, to introduce appropriate sanctions towards political party under his leadership. We ask that they deny any further support to HDZ BiH until the party carries out internal reform which would demonstrate a change of its current course towards one that would be in line with the civilized and civic values of non-discrimination, integration, respecting diversity and protection of human rights of all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Europe as a whole.

We believe that witholding support and distancing themselves from persons responsible for war crimes represent a minimum of basic civilizational values that such a change of course would have to bring.
