Fact-checking

Verification of the accuracy and consistency of statements by public officials, media, and social networks, as well as monitoring the fulfillment of pre-election promises made by parties and individuals.

In our previous work, we have noticed a significant need for a similar approach in the field of media accountability. We often encountered problematic claims that did not come from politicians but from the media themselves when reporting their statements. Since Istinomjer is dedicated to strengthening the political accountability of public officials and does not engage in fact-checking media information, such claims have remained unassessed until now. Launching a separate fact-checking platform for the media was, therefore, the next logical step for us.

In developing the Raskrinkavanje platform, we collaborated with the Network for Investigating Crime and Corruption (KRIK), a partner organization from Serbia specializing in investigative journalism, and the Center for Democratic Transition from Montenegro, an organization with extensive experience in promoting the accountability of democratic actors and conducting various social and political research.

Since then, the initiative and collaboration have expanded to other countries in the region, and the same platforms have been launched in Slovenia and North Macedonia by the Center for Investigative Journalism in the Adriatic Region and the Association of Citizens MOST. Alongside the Citizens’ Association Gong from Croatia, which operates the Faktograf platform, the Novi Sad School of Journalism, which launched the Fake News Tragač portal, and the other mentioned platforms in the region (raskrikavanje.rs, raskrinkavanje.me, razkrinkavanje.si, f2n2.mk), we have also established a network of fact-checking portals in Southeastern Europe – SeeCheck.

Raskrinkavanje is also a verified member of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN).
