“Zašto ne” has been working with activists and civil society organizations from the MENA region (Middle East and North Africa) since 2012. The collaboration began with the participation of Egyptian activists at the POINT conference in 2012, shortly after the Arab Spring, and has continued in various forms. The program’s goals are to strengthen the capacities of and assist civil society organizations and activists from the MENA region in utilizing technology for monitoring political processes, ensuring media accountability, combating disinformation, and building democracy in the region as a whole.
The internship/fellowship program is the most significant part of this initiative, with five to ten activists participating each year. The program includes a one-month stay at “Zašto ne” and several months of work on projects within their respective organizations. Additionally, MENA activists participate in the POINT conference annually, and as part of this program, we support various projects such as the AIN network, Akhbarmeter, training sessions for activists from Afghanistan, and similar initiatives.
