Kos and Cvjetićanin had an engaging and constructive meeting focused on the current state of affairs in the region, with particular emphasis on information integrity and digital alignment. The meeting highlighted the shared commitment to an open, informed, and resilient democratic space in the Western Balkans, reinforcing the pivotal role of civil society in shaping the region’s future in the European Union.

Commissioner Kos reaffirmed the European Union’s steadfast support for civil society, welcoming their active role as contributors to the EU integration processes in the region. She underscored the critical importance of media resilience and information integrity for safeguarding democratic processes, building stable democracies and advancing EU integration. 

Cvjetićanin highlighted the proactive efforts of civil society across the region to promote meaningful alignment with the EU’s digital policies in their respective countries, while working to maintain a regionally harmonized approach. 

Commissioner Kos expressed her support and openness to continue the dialogue on these important matters, with both parties agreeing that the European Democracy Shield and the EU Growth Plan for the Western Balkans provide a robust framework to further develop and leverage cooperation to address broader challenges to democratic resilience in the region’s digital environment.
